AZUL is a Mediterranean music band based in the DC area with roots from Algeria and Morocco. We play an international and multicultural repertoire of songs from our own North African Berber heritage and also from Spain, France, the Sahara desert, and wherever our inspiration takes us.

Azul means "hello" in Berber but also refers to the "blue" color of the sea.

Hacene (vocals & guitar) grew up on the shores of the Mediterranean in Tigzirt, Algeria; Abdel (bass) on the coast of Casablanca in Morocco; Jose (guitar) in Puerto Rico; and Momo (percussion) near the Red Sea in Sudan. The sea inspires us in many ways, it nourishes our musical creativity.
